I don't just hurdle

This is footage from one of my favorite races my senior year in high-school, the indoor season of course. It’s kind of ironic how I consider it be one of my favorites when in all actuality I’ve only ran this event twice. When I did run this event I enjoyed every moment of it.
This was the 300 meter dash. This race was perfect for me because I did not like to run the 400 meter dash and I was a good 200 meter dash runner. The way that the race was set up on the track was different than any other race, it started towards the top of the track and then we had to run a complete two laps to the finish.

This race in particular is quite interesting because in the middle of the race a kid right in front of me had fell, so I had to do a little jump over him. I was a man on a mission to win my race and I wouldn’t let anything stop me. Even though I had started in dead last, I managed to win the race because I more endurance than my competitors. It sure was a great feeling when I had crossed the finish line.

Well about three years has passed since when I first came in contact with a hurdle, and I think its safe to say that I have came a long way. This was a little footage from one of my races my senior year, before I started developing pain in my hip.
When I had I my first track meet when I went over the hurdles I looked so horrible. The main objective to hurdling is to get to the ground as quick as possible, so when I first started out I had a ton of hang time. I was practically bunny hopping over the hurdles. But thanks to many hours spent training and getting better at my craft, I have become a solid hurdler. I wouldn’t say I’ve perfected the art of hurdling because there is always room for improvement, and I have lost to hurdlers that were better than me so I’m far from perfect. But on the other hand, it is very pleasing to see how far I have came, and what little hang time I have now.

Although I’m currently not running track, I do miss it a lot. I hope to maybe one day run track again and compete on the collegiate level.

My First Encounter with the Hurdles

When I was first introduced to the hurdles I was just a freshman in high-school. I had previously ran track in grammar school, but I was more so a sprinter, so I thought I would continue down that path as being a sprinter in high-school as well. But little did I know that things were about to change.
The week before track tryouts there posters all around the school telling people to come and try out for the team. A couple of my friends and I had talked about trying out together at lunch everyday. I couldn’t wait for Monday of the next week to come, I was so anxious.
Monday had finally came and of course since try outs were after school all of my classes that day went by extremely slow. But when school was finally over and try outs had started I was well prepared and ready.

The head coach had started to break people into different groups, mostly off of how they looked. He put all of the previous athletes together and then began to break up all the fresh meat. As he was going down the line telling people where to go I couldn’t help but think that I would go with the fellow sprinters. Boy was I wrong. When coach had approached me and told me to go with the hurdlers I felt as if my high-school track and field career was over before it had even began…
